SDSU Parts Ways With Jackson
The San Diego State men's lacrosse team has made the decision not to renew the contract of head coach Charlie Jackson for the 2016-2017 season.
The players and alumni are grateful and appreciate Coach Jackson's efforts for laying the foundation as a nationally recognized program, which made its first MCLA National Tournament appearance in 2015. We would like to thank Coach Jackson for his dedication over the last four years, and wish him the best in future endeavors.
This difficult decision was come to with some input from alumni leaders, and involved proper diligence from the school. Dejuan Benford, Sports Clubs & Intramural Sports Coordinator at San Diego State, was the ultimate arbiter of the decision, as is required by school policy. In a statement to alumni leaders, he expressed a change of head coach is in line with a goal for long-term excellence in the program.
A representative of the player officers shared this statement on the decision:
"The players appreciate Coach Jackson's efforts in improving the state of SDSU lacrosse for the past four seasons. His efforts have laid the foundation for a nationally recognized program that competes in a league of upper tier talent. We would like to thank Coach Jackson for his dedication to the individual student athletes, and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
As we move forward, the search for a new head coach will begin and will be led by team officers, Sports Club staff and select alumni representatives. To the extent that we are able, we will keep you informed as we go through this process.
We are determined and excited as the 2016-2017 season approaches and thank you for your consistent and continued support.
